Leased Line vs FTTP: Choosing Business Connectivity

Dedicated bandwidth and guaranteed uptime versus far lower cost. A clear comparison for growing UK businesses.

FTTP: fast, cheap, shared

Full-fibre to the premises delivers high download speeds at a fraction of leased line cost, but bandwidth is shared with other users in your area and upload is typically much lower than download.

Leased line: dedicated and symmetric

A leased line gives you uncontended, symmetric bandwidth with a guaranteed uptime SLA and typically a five-hour fix time. That matters if you host services, run large video or CAD workflows, or have a lot of concurrent VoIP calls.

The deciding question

Ask what an hour offline costs you and how much you upload. Businesses that push data out — media, engineering, cloud backup, multi-site VoIP — justify a leased line. Those mainly consuming cloud apps rarely do.
