Business Broadband vs Home Broadband: Is the Premium Worth It?

SLAs, static IPs, prioritised repair and symmetric speeds — what you actually get for the extra monthly cost.

The difference is repair time, not speed

A consumer fault can take several days to fix with no compensation. Business packages carry a service level agreement — often next working day or better — with credits when it is missed. If a day offline costs you more than a month of broadband, the premium pays for itself.

Features that matter commercially

Beyond the SLA, business packages typically include:

  • A static IP for VPN, remote access and hosted services
  • Uncontended or lower-contention traffic during peak hours
  • UK business-hours technical support with an account reference
  • No traffic management or fair usage throttling

When home broadband is genuinely fine

A one-person business with no card terminal dependency, no VoIP and no cloud-heavy workflow can reasonably run on a consumer line. Be honest about what an outage would actually cost before paying for resilience you do not need.
