Business Broadband Outages: Compensation and Escalation

What your SLA actually entitles you to, how to claim service credits, and when to escalate to the ombudsman.

Service credits are not automatic

Most business SLAs pay credits only when claimed, within a defined window — often 30 days. Log every outage with start and end times as it happens; retrospective reconstruction rarely succeeds.

Escalating a fault

Get a fault reference on the first call, ask for the target fix time in writing, and request escalation to a manager if it passes. Politeness plus persistence and a written trail resolves faults faster than volume.

Alternative dispute resolution

Small businesses can take unresolved complaints to an approved ADR scheme after eight weeks or a deadlock letter. It is free, and providers settle a substantial share of cases once a case is opened.
