The direction of travel is clear

Card and mobile wallet payments now account for the substantial majority of UK retail transactions. Businesses refusing cards routinely lose sales, particularly among younger customers who carry no cash at all.

Cash is not free

Counting, banking, insurance, shrinkage and staff time all carry cost. Once properly attributed, cash handling frequently costs more per pound than card processing.

Going fully cashless

It is legal in the UK, but consider your customer base carefully. Some trades and locations have a meaningful cash-reliant segment, and excluding them can cost more than the handling saving.
